The second-hand marketplace Members Express Anger Regarding Size Updates
Vinted users have been reacting angrily after an update resulted in products showing incorrect sizing.
The popular resale platform has altered its sizing categories for female and kids' apparel without notifying all users about the change.
Online Platforms Backlash
Numerous buyers and vendors have taken to social media saying Vinted listings now show a different size category versus the original listing due to the recalibration.
Vinted explained the updated approach better aligns with comparable marketplaces.
The platform has recommended to review their products and adjust the sizing manually where appropriate, causing user dissatisfaction.
Size Classification Updates
Before the change, the sizing featured one number and one letter, for instance S/8 or M/10.
The new system has an alphabetical indicator and numerical range such as S/UK 8-10.
With some products, the measurements have been reclassified - for example a size L was previously a 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.
Shopper Experiences
Frankie Bridger, who creates plus-size fashion videos, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," the way the service now categorizes.
Stephanie Gallen, from Glasgow, explained products she uploaded on Vinted with size 14 labels were displaying on the service as measurements 20-22.
"Should someone sized 20-22 purchase these they may become frustrated," she stated.
Manual Updates
Another shopper, based in Derby, stated she felt frustrated by the change as she had to manually change the measurements for "each individual item".
"This situation is especially annoying, because of my ongoing medical condition and platform income has been essential after experiencing income reduction," she said.
Platform Context
The service features exceeding 100 million users, comprising 18 million UK members.
It has become a favored option compared to resale services such as eBay and Depop.
This isn't the first time that an unexpected update on the platform has faced criticism: previously, Vinted reversed a change regarding delivery choices following member complaints.
